Hamid, Acosta lead D.C. United to come back win in Atlanta

After just nine minutes on Sunday, it looked like it
would be a good day for hosts Atlanta United at Bobby
Dodd Stadium.
D.C. United had other things to say about that, turning
around an early deficit for a 3-1 road victory.
D.C. playmaker Luciano Acosta and goalkeeper Bill
Hamid were key to the victory, which didn’t look like it
would come for the visitors considering how well
Atlanta United started the match.
Atlanta forced Hamid into a pair of tough early saves
before Kenwyne Jones put Atlanta United ahead 1-0,
heading home Yamil Asad’s cross to the top right
Before Atlanta United could build on that lead, its
defense paid for a big mistake in the 25th minute,
when a Leandro Gonzalez Pirez turnover led to an own
goal after a Lamar Neagle cross struck Michael
Parkhurst and redirected past Alec Kann to tie the
Just after Sebastian Le Toux saw his effort saved by
Alec Kann, Luciano Acosta put D.C. ahead from a left-
footed long-range effort in the 36th-minute.
Atlanta United figured to mount a big push for an
equalizer, but couldn’t find one before Acosta cracked
the Atlanta defense with a perfect through-pass that
sprung Le Toux behind the defense. The French
forward maneuvered past Kann before slotting home
the insurance goal.
Atlanta saw numerous chances go astray late as Hector
Villalba saw two efforts saved by Hamid—who finished
with six saves on the day— while Greg Garza and
Brandon Vazquez missed their efforts.
The draw leaves D.C. United (3-3-2) in a three-way tie
for sixth place in the Eastern Conference with Atlanta
United and the Chicago Fire.
Atlanta United (3-3-2) start a two game road trip on
May 7th against New York City F.C. D.C. United start a
three game home stand a day prior against the
Montreal Impact.

    Happy New month in advance….

MLS- Philadelphia Union Struggling Union, Galaxy play toscoreless draw

The Philadelphia Union and LA Galaxy both entered Saturday night in need of three points after their
respective rough starts. Instead, neither team got the best result possible and the match at StubHub Centerended 0-0.
Curt Onalfo’s Galaxy were the better team in attack, but a bad bounce in the first half and a few missed chances in the second half forced them to drop two more points at home. The Galaxy are now 1-3-1 at home in 2017
The Galaxy probably should have gone ahead by a goal in the 21st minute, but Joao Pedro’s attempt
banged off both posts before Andre Blake covered up the ball before the hosts could capitalize on a rebound.
The home side turned the pressure up a notch to begin the second half, and they came close on a few occasions in the opening stages of the second stanza.
Jermaine Jones’ header went just wide of the right post and Emmanuel Boateng’s wide-open curler from the
right side of the box went right into the arms of Blake.
Haris Medunjanin almost gave the Union an unexpected lead in the 68th minute on a blazing run through the
middle of the park, but Brian Rowe was up to the task and he pushed away the effort from the Bosnian.
From that point on, neither team was able put a significant chance on goal, even after both teams made attacking substitutions to try and turn around their luck.
The Union will return home to open May against the New York Red Bulls on Saturday, while the Galaxy host the Chicago Fire in a week’s time.

Jozy Altidore scores twice to lift TFC over Dynamo

TORONTO — Jozy Altidore became Toronto FC’s second all-time leading scorer, as TFC defeated the Houston Dynamo, 2-0, at BMO Field on Friday night.

Altidore grabbed a brace in the victory, recording his 33rd and 34th goals in all competitions with TFC to move past Dwayne De Rosario on the team’s all-time scoring list.

The U.S. Men’s National Team striker has now racked up 20 goals and nine assists in 29 matches since returning from a hamstring injury on July 23.
Altidore is also tied for third in scoring in MLS this season.
It appeared as if Altidore and TFC would be left frustrated by the Dynamo based on the first 15 minutes. The visitors enjoyed long spells of possession and tried to restrict Toronto’s attacks by having Juan David Cabezas operating as a third centerback when the Reds had the ball. Houston forced countless
turnovers in midfield, but Alberth Elis and Erick Torres failed to capitalize. Eventually, TFC found the breakthrough in the 16th
minute. After a strong run by Marco Delgado, Raheem Edwards collected the ball on the left flank and picked out Altidore for the opener. Replays showed that Edwards may have been offside, but the goal stood.

The Dynamo kept pressing as Elis tried to pressure Toronto’s backline with his pace. Once again, though,
TFC’s quick movement unlocked Houston’s deep lines. Edwards found Altidore, who laid it off for Giovinco with his first touch.

The Italian flicked the ball over the
defense for the American, who took it off his chest and powered it past Joe Willis.

Dynamo head coach Wilmer Cabrera switched to his patented 4-3-3 in the second half after bringing on Romell Quioto and Mauro Manotas.

Houston tried to pick out one of its three forwards as soon as it won possession in its own third, but TFC cut out any potentially dangerous attack.
The victory temporarily moves Toronto up to second place in the Eastern Conference with 13 points.

TFC also obtained its fourth clean sheet of the season. The Dynamo, meanwhile, have earned just one victory in their past four matches and have lost all their of their away games in 2017.

Report: Beckham group adds new investor to Miami project

David Beckham’s Miami project reportedly has a new partner involved According to ESPN, banker Todd Boehly has been added to Beckham’s Miami MLS push, adding another investor to the ownership group. Boehly, a part-owner of Major League Baseball’s Los Angeles Dodgers with a net worth in the billions, joins Beckham, Sprint CEO Marcelo Claure, Oak View Group CEO Tim Leiweke and Beckham’s business partner, Simon Fuller, as investors.

The report says that MLS has yet to officially sign off on the proposal and may come back with further recommendations. Several MLS owners are reportedly speaking out against the group’s discounted $25 million expansion fee, one which was agreed upon during Beckham’s playing career. Current expansion fees are reportedly north of $150 million, and several current MLS owners don’t believe it is fair to have other owners attach themselves to Beckham’s deal at the discounted rate.

Beckham’s project recently spent 19 million on a six-acre parcel of land in Miami’s Overtown neighborhood and the group is reportedly set to push for a remaining three-acre parcel once the ownership group is rounded out.
